Brent LCOc1 futures for February delivery rose 31 cents to $84.64 a barrel, a 0.4% gain, by 0117 GMT. US crude CLc1 advanced 22 cents, or 0.3%, to $79.75 per barrel.
Russia is the world's second-largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia, and a major disruption to its sales would have far-reaching consequences for global energy supplies.
Brent crude was up 73 cents, or 0.9%, at $84.65 a barrel at 0122 GMT, while the U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $80.41 a barrel, up 85 cents, or 1.1%.
India has lifted the ban on export of wheat to Nepal. It had imposed a ban five months back. On Thursday, India had issued a permission to import 50,000 tons of wheat.
The government of India has reduced the customs duty on the import of raw materials of soybean and sunflower oil to zero due to the high price of edible oil.
