According to market data available on NepalCommodity, sugar prices have steadily increased over the past several months. The commodity was trading around Rs. 4,700 per 50kg bag earlier this year and has now gained Rs. 250 per bag, representing an increase of approximately 5.32%.
The latest trading session recorded a further increase of Rs. 50 per bag, or 1.02%, highlighting continued strength in the market.
Market participants attribute the price increase to several factors, including rising transportation and logistics costs, higher production expenses, increasing energy costs, and strong demand from wholesalers and retailers. Some traders have also been holding stocks in anticipation of further price increases, which has contributed to tighter market availability.
