Rice prices in Nepal have continued their upward trend, with several major Katarni, Jeera Masino, and Steam Rice brands recording price increases this week. According to the latest market data from NepalCommodity, most rice categories have moved higher, reflecting growing demand and strengthening market sentiment.
The strongest gains were seen in the Katarni rice segment. Pearl Katarni Rice (25kg) increased to Rs. 2,300, while Sangam Special Katarni Rice (25kg) reached Rs. 2,325, both touching their respective 52-week highs.
Goodluck Gold Angoori Rice (25kg) also recorded a notable increase of Rs. 50, climbing to Rs. 2,275. Meanwhile, premium Jeera Masino brands such as Rajhans Premium Jeera Masino and Taleju Jeera Masino rose to Rs. 2,250 per bag.
Steam rice prices also moved upward, with Aashraya Steam Rice reaching Rs. 1,525 and Aastha Steam Rice climbing to Rs. 1,575 per 25kg bag. In contrast, the premium basmati segment remained stable, with Newari Shahi Pulao Basmati (20kg) holding steady at Rs. 3,575.
What's Driving the Increase?
Market participants point to several factors behind the recent rise in rice prices:
Higher paddy procurement costs
Rising rice prices in India
Increased transportation and logistics expenses
Strong wholesale and retail demand
Limited availability of quality paddy stocks
Traders report that demand for Katarni and Jeera Masino varieties remains particularly strong, contributing to the recent upward movement in prices.
Market Outlook
The current market trend remains bullish, especially for non-basmati rice categories. If paddy prices and import costs continue to rise, further price increases may be seen in the coming weeks.
Industry observers are closely monitoring supply conditions and developments in neighboring markets, as these factors will likely influence future price movements in Nepal's rice sector.
